The Kilimani police have fatally wounded two robbers in a deadly heist. The police also recovered various stolen items.
A statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on November 3, 2024, stated that the police officers drawn from Kilimani police station this morning fatally wounded two robbers and recovered a mini revolver, a panga, mobile phones, and a motorcycle Reg. No. KMGB 965W.
“The officers who were on patrol duties along Tigoni road near Naivas Supermarket are reported to have bumped into the gang of three,” the DCI statement read in part.
Further, the statement reiterated, “The gang was right in the act leading to a shoot-out that left two gang members permanently immobilized as one of their members escaped with gunshot wounds.”
Members of the Public Identify their Valuables
Following the incident, two members of the public who had earlier lost their valuables to the hoodlums were able to identify them from the recoveries positively.
Moreover, the scene has been processed by crime scene detectives as the search for the escapee continues.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies within the Kilimani sub-county have intensified patrols within their area of jurisdiction and therefore call upon members of the public to continue collaborating with them for a safer and secure sub-county.

Past Robbery Case Confronted by Shooting
In April, a police officer shot dead a pastor during a violent robbery at a Kivisiani Market in Kisasi district, Kitui County.
This shows that cases of police confrontation with robbers leading to gunshots are not new.

The preacher at Heaven City Chapel, based in the Soweto area was also overseeing another branch at Kauma Market. Ezekiel Muinde was allegedly part of the gang that raided a wholesale shop owned by Muli Munyoki.
Narrating the preceding event, Media reports stated, “They presented themselves as police officers from Kitui Police Station tracking stolen goods and demanded to check my stock. Once inside the shop they drew guns and ordered me and the night guard to lie down,” Munyoki said.

Incidences Police Use Firearms
Police officers may use firearms in several situations: first, to protect themselves or others from imminent danger.
Additionally, they may deploy firearms to prevent serious crimes that pose a threat to life. Officers can also use their weapons when attempting to arrest a suspect who is resisting and may commit a serious crime.
Finally, firearms may be used to prevent a suspect’s escape, especially if there is a risk of that individual committing a serious offence afterwards.
