Police have announced heightened security measures ahead of the Africa Forward Summit 2026, with specialized security teams set to be deployed across Nairobi during the high-level event.
In a security advisory issued during a media briefing by Nairobi Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud, the operation will involve multiple security agencies, including the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and anti-terror units.
Police said the deployments are aimed at strengthening security around key venues, hotels, and movement routes expected to be used by visiting delegations.
Authorities also confirmed that security surveillance and traffic management operations will be intensified throughout the summit period.
According to Mohamud, motorists should expect temporary disruptions on key roads across the city during the summit period.
He said the disruptions will mainly result from the movement of VVIP delegations attending the international event.
Police Warn of Major Traffic Snarls During Africa Forward Summit
Police warned that traffic snarl-ups are expected along major highways leading into and out of Nairobi.
Affected routes include sections of Mombasa Road, Thika Road, Kiambu Road, and Limuru Road.
“There will be temporary traffic disruptions along Mombasa Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, and Kiambu Road. As most of the VVIPs will be using those roads,” the police said.
Several roads within the Nairobi Central Business District are also expected to experience temporary closures and restricted movement.
Members of the public were advised to cooperate with traffic officers managing the affected routes.
Police further urged motorists to consider using alternative routes where necessary to minimize delays during the summit period.
