The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) have announced a new partnership that will provide loans to students at the Kenya Forestry College.
In a statement released on July 17, KFS revealed that it had signed a Service Contract with HELB to establish the Kenya Forestry College Student Funding Scheme (KFC-SF).
“The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) have signed a Service Contract to establish the Kenya Forestry College Student Funding Scheme (KFC-SF),” read part of the announcement.
The funding scheme will be managed by HELB, under the oversight of a joint committee comprising representatives from KFS, HELB, and KFC.
HELB to Offer Loans to Kenya Forestry College Students
The agreement was signed at the KFS Headquarters in Karura by PSDCCF-FCM Clement Ng’oriareng and HELB CEO Geoffrey Monari.
The partnership aims to provide loans and bursaries to students undertaking forestry-related courses at the Kenya Forestry College (KFC).
Dr. Ng’oriareng hailed the initiative as a crucial step toward building a skilled forestry workforce, while Monari described it as a significant milestone in advancing education and strengthening climate resilience.
The five-year partnership is expected to expand access to quality forestry education while contributing to Kenya’s broader environmental and development goals.

About Kenya Forestry College
Kenya Forestry College (KFC) is a technical training institution which is the training arm of the Kenya Forest Service, a Parastatal within the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
The College is established through the Forest Conservation and Management Act of 2016 as a tertiary institution responsible for training personnel required in the forest sector.
KFC has trained local and foreign students, including from countries such as Rwanda, Somalia, Zambia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Burundi, Comoros Islands, Grenada, Botswana, Tanzania, Uganda, Namibia, Swaziland, Angola and Sudan.

Training Programmes Offered
The College offers a two-year certificate in forestry, an additional one-year upgrade to a diploma, short courses and refresher courses in various technical fields.
Students can pursue courses in areas such as Artisan Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery, Sawmilling Technology, Saw Doctoring, and Basic Logging Operations.
At the same time, Honey and Beekeeping Technology, Landscaping Technology, Climate Change Management, Agroforestry and Community Development, Commercial Tree Growing, Tree Nursery Management, and Paramilitary Training.
