The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has outlined the admission and replacement process for Grade 10 learners ahead of the 2026 intake.

Placement results will show the schools where learners have been admitted. Admission letters and joining instructions are accessed online using the learner’s assessment number.

All schools, both public and private, are required to admit Grade 10 learners through the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS).

No principal is allowed to enter a learner into KEMIS before the learner physically reports to the school.

Daily online reporting will be monitored through KEMIS to ensure compliance.

How to Change Grade 10 School Choices Before Admission

For grade 10 learners seeking to change schools, the following process is applicable;

  • Schools will declare vacancies through their respective County Directors of Education.
  • Requests to transfer must be submitted through the heads of junior schools at least two weeks before the official Grade 10 reporting date.
  • Priority is given to learners who have previously selected the schools they are requesting.
  • Approvals for transfers will be based on the documented capacity of the senior schools, as assessed by the Ministry of Education.
  • Once approved, joining instructions will be accessed online, and schools are not permitted to issue printed letters for replacement cases.

“Replacement is allowed only once and is irreversible,” KNEC states.
