Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially launched a new political party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), just days after resigning from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Gachagua’s party is positioned as a people-centred party that pledges to amplify the voices of ordinary Kenyans.
According to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), citizens have multiple avenues to register as members of a political party or to verify their existing membership.
If one is interested in joining the newly launched DCP or any other party, registration can be done physically or online.
Steps to Join Gachagua & Other Parties
Visit the party’s office and request a Party Membership Verification Form.
Complete the form with accurate personal details including name, county, age, gender, and occupation.
Sign and return the form to the party office.
Upon approval, the party submits your information to the Registrar via the Integrated Political Parties Management System (IPPMS).
Once verified by the Registrar, your membership is officially recognised.

Through online registration, one should log in to your eCitizen account. Navigate to “Register of Political Parties” and select “Registration to a party.”
Enter the name of the political party and your voter registration details. Submit the application for verification.
After approval by the Registrar, you’ll officially be listed as a member.
However, political parties reserve the right to accept or reject membership applications, even if all official requirements are met.
How to Confirm Your Party Membership
Before joining a new political party, it’s advisable to confirm whether you’re already affiliated with another.
Under Section 34(d) of the Political Parties Act, 2011, the public has the right to access party membership registers in line with the Data Protection Act and Access to Information Act.

One should submit a written request to the Registrar of Political Parties, including your full name, national ID or passport number, and a copy of the registration document.
You will receive a response within the timelines stated in the ORPP service charter.
Visit any ORPP office, including county branches, and present your original ID or passport. Membership status is provided on the spot.
Additionally, you can dial *509#, a free USSD service that allows users to instantly check the party they are registered under.
One can also visit the Registrar’s website or use the government’s eCitizen platform to verify your party membership. This is also free, aside from standard internet data charges.
