Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has appointed Cleophas Malala as his deputy party leader during the official launch of his party, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
During the launch of his party in Lavington, Nairobi, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua described the Democratic for the Citizens Party (DCP) as a citizen-centered movement, unveiling its slogan: “Sikiliza Wakenya”, translating to “Listen to Kenyans”
“On June 4, 2025, we will officially launch the Democratic for the Citizens Party (DCP), an event expected to draw thousands of party members and supporters in a show of unity and momentum,” Rigathi announced.
Gachagua later unveiled a list of additional party leaders who will support him in driving forward the Democratic for the Citizens Party’s (DCP) vision and manifesto.
Gachagua Names Malala & Other Party Leaders at DCP Launch
At the same time, Gachagua unveiled a team of interim leaders to help steer the Democratic for the Citizens Party (DCP) forward. Hezron Obatha was appointed as the Interim Secretary General, while Martil Ole Kamwaro will serve as the Deputy Secretary General.
Hannah Mutua was named the party’s Treasurer, with Wanjira Njoka taking up the role of Deputy National Treasurer. Mithika Linturi was appointed as the National Organising Secretary, and Cate Waruguru will serve as the National Women’s Leader.
Additional Names in the List
Gachagua also announced additional key appointments to strengthen the party’s national structure and outreach efforts.
Hon. Maina Kamanda was named as the Chairperson of the Council of Eminent Persons, representing Nairobi. David Njenga Gikonyo will serve as the Chair of the Diaspora Caucus.
While Barnabas Kinyua Mbukethi from Meru was appointed as the Chair of the Religious Caucus.

In charge of coordinating county activities, Alex Khamasi from Kakamega will serve as the National Coordinator for Counties. Brenda Wanjira from Busia was appointed as the Executive Director of the party.
At the same time Christopher Mwadime from Taita Taveta will take on the role of Secretary for Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations.

Rigathi Gachagua Unveils Party and Organs
Gachagua announced that the party will be armed with several organs including The National Delegates Convention (NDC), The National Governing Council (NGC), the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The party will also have the National Management Committee (NMC), The National Elections Board (NEB), The National Assembly Coccus (NAC), The National MCA Coccus (NMC), The Senate Coccus among others.
