The Board of I&M Group on Tuesday, November 5 announced the retirement of their first female Director. In a notice, the Board said that the retirement decision was made after Dr. Nyambura Koigi had completed the successful completion of her tenure.
“The Board of I&M Group PLC wishes to announce the retirement of Dr. A. Nyambura Koigi with effect from 28th October 2024 following successful completion of her tenure on the Board,” part of the notice read.
Dr. Koigi was the first female Director on the Company’s Board and has served as a Director since 2015 as well as Chairperson of the Board Nomination Remuneration & Governance Committee.

According to the I & M Group, she is credited with championing the ownership of risks which enhanced 1&M Group PLC’s risk management framework.
“Her extensive experience and knowledge has contributed immeasurably to the sound implementation of the Company’s strategy,” the Group said.

Additionally, the Group thanked Dr. Koigi for her immense contribution at the company and wished her the best in her future endeavors.
“The Board, while taking this opportunity to sincerely thank Dr. Koigi for her invaluable contribution to the Board, her leadership and guidance on risk and governance matters, wishes her the very best for the future,” the notice read.
The female Director’s education background
Before joining I & M, Nyambura also served as a Managing Director of Post Bank where she worked from 2005 to 2015 June 30.
Nyambura is a holder of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, Master of Business Administration degree in Strategic Management and a Doctorate in Business Administration. She is also an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya (ICSK).

Meanwhile, the I & M Group announced an appointment besides Koigi’s retirement.
The Group announced the appointment of appointment of David Thuo Ngata as the Group Chief Finance Officer (Group CFO) with effect from 16th October 2024.

Ngata is an experienced finance professional with over 25 years of expertise in senior roles within Banking, Finance, and Accounting.
Before becoming the Group CFO, he served as the Group Finance Director at Equity Group Holdings PLC for six years, where he led the finance teams across regional markets including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He has previously worked at American Express in New York and with KPMG as an Audit Senior Manager in Kenya and in New York.
Ngata holds a Master of Science in Business Analytics from Carnegie Mellon University, a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) from the University of Nairobi and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and member of ICPAK (Kenya) and AICPA (USA).
