Nairobi Governor Johnson Arthur Sakaja on Tuesday, October 17 shared details of his five-day visit to Paris, France.
Taking to his X account, Sakaja said he visited Science Po Urban School in Paris to officiate an agreement between Nairobi County and the institution.
“Wonderful engagement with the Faculty and Students Science Po Urban School in Paris, this morning. A partnership between the County Govt of Nairobi and Science Po where issues of urban complexity are researched on, and interventions designed will herald great opportunities for our city,” said Sakaja.
Further, the governor said the partnership will help Nairobi City fight its challenges.
“From scholarships to collaborative interventions on city challenges, we look forward to a strong partnership,” he said.
Additionally, Sakaja held meetings with two France based agencies to discuss on the school feeding at the School Meal Coalition.
“This is part of our 5-day working tour in Paris that include engagements on School Feeding, at the School Meals Coalition, discussions with Agence Francaise de # Development (AFD) who are supporting BRT and water interventions for Nairobi, Ambition Africa, medef.com, Paris Urbanism Agency, Smart Cities among other engagements with French Govt Agencies and the Private Sector,” explained Sakaja.

Reaction to Sakaja Trip
Sakaja’s visit drew mixed reactions with a section of Kenyans supporting the governor while others criticizing him.

Journalist James Smart opened the conversation with a photo of Governor Sakaja with his executives in Paris.
“Hardworking Nairobi County governor and his executives in a very essential travel to Paris,” read the caption.
However, Senior Counsel (SC) Ahmednasir Abdullahi supported Sakaja arguing that benchmarking is allowed.
“Absolutely, hardworking reference to show that good sir,” replied Smart.
Moreover, a user by the name Amakanji Thomas wondered why the governor travelled after the ban by President William Ruto on foreign trips.

“I thought the national government through the president restricted these trips?” asked Thomas.
Additionally, others said the visit came immediately after the governor signed the Nairobi finance bill that increased taxes on some essential services for residents.
“While back home Governor Sakaja just signed more taxes for Nairobians,” replied Opiyo Ogaya.
On the other hand, Esco.william77 supported the governor saying the visit is meant to prepare for Elnino.
“The reason I love our governor, always hardworking and travelling across the world to benchmark Elnino preparedness,” said Esc.william77.
Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga praised Smart for his use of sarcasm while commenting on Sakaja’s trip.
