Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has been arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Wanjigi had appeared at the DCI headquarters after he was summoned over his involvement in the planned Nane Nane protests held in Nairobi.
However, he shared online that the officers illegally arrested him despite court orders barring them from doing so.
“The DCI have illegally arrested me despite numerous court orders barring the same arrest,” reads Wanjigi’s statement.
According to the police, they are implicating him after claiming that they found teargas canisters among other items at his gate in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
Consequently, he has been asked to show up at the headquarters on August 19.

Wanjigi to Show up with Family Members
Wanjigi is expected to show up at the DCI premises with his family members. They will accompany him and record statements about how they were handled by police when their home was raided.
The family lamented that the police raided their home in Muthaiga and caused extensive damage to their property. Additionally, they said that the officers threatened them with guns inside their own home.
On the matter of possessing guns and teargas canisters, Wanjigi said that the officers planted the ammunitions to tarnish his name explaining that he has CCTV evidence showing the police planting the weapons.
Moreover, on August 9, the High Court of Kenya barred the National Police Service (NPS) from arresting or detaining the businessman.
Justice Bahati Mwamuye in a ruling barred DCI from arresting or detaining Wanjigi after he moved to court seeking to block his arrest over involvement in the Nane Nane protests.
“Pending the inter-partes hearing and determination of the Application dated 08/08/2024, a conservatory order be and is hereby issued restraining the Respondents jointly and severally, their servants, agents,
“Or third parties acting under the direction or authority of the Respondents from detaining, arresting, or restraining the liberty and freedom of movement of the Petitioner/Applicant, Jimi Wanjigi,” the ruling read in part.

Family Narrates Ordeal
Jimi Wanjigi’s son, Maina Wanjigi, while speaking to the press on Friday, August 9, said that the police terrorized them throughout the night.
“They came in at around 7 pm, broke the door, and I was beaten up by five masked police officers. Once they entered the house, they assaulted my sister and mother, ordered us to lie on the floor, and kicked us on the heads. We had no choice but to cooperate.”
“It was until 6:00 am today that mass individuals came and dragged us from bed and told us that they wanted to search even more,” he narrated.
