The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced the introduction of a new service for passengers with luggage at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
According to a statement by the authority, the services dubbed Airport Mtaani, will include handling luggage on behalf of passengers through security screening and checks to ensure convenience and efficiency.
Further, they can choose to have the luggage delivered to their preferred address after the security screening as they move on to other activities after landing.
Additionally, the statement indicated that Airport Mtaani services will be offered in collaboration with Hala Nairobi Airport Services for passengers using various airlines at the airport.
KAA Board Chairman Caleb Kositany stated that the move will ensure a streamlined process that saves time for passengers upon arrival at JKIA.
“Gone are the days of having to go through security screening just to check on your baggage. This streamlined process saves time for passengers upon arrival. This pioneering service aims to revolutionize luggage handling, offering travelers unparalleled convenience and efficiency,” he said.

How Airport Mtaani Will Work
According to KAA, Hala Nairobi Airport Services will coordinate with ground handlers and different airlines to manage the unaccompanied luggage at the airport.
In addition, for passengers making inquiries on lost luggage, the company will be collaborating closely with all airlines to ensure comprehensive information for quick processing.
“Airport Mtaani is collaborating closely with all airlines to ensure comprehensive information is available for luggage inquiries. This means passengers can quickly ascertain the status of their luggage without unnecessary delays,” added the statement.
Also, passengers with long layover in Nairobi have an option of storing their luggage at our Terminal 1D CCTV controlled storage room. Often, airport luggage storage services are made available for travelers who want to temporarily store their luggage or belongings while at the airport.
Further, passengers booked with the services will be able to exit the airport after immigration without waiting for the luggage at the baggage belts.
“Our baggage dedicated teams retrieve the luggage, clear through customs and deliver it to the passengers preferred address. This leaves the arriving passengers with the ample time of attending to other important matters without the hassle of carrying luggage around,” the company indicated.

JKIA Terminal Leaking Roofs
Earlier in the year, JKIA was on the spot for stubborn leaking roofs and blackouts which many Kenyans termed as a global embarrassment.
Even after Transport cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced that the matter had been resolved, on February 29, videos of a leaking roof from the airport circulated online raising questions on the renovations that had been done.
Months prior, Murkomen assured the public that a contractor would address the leaking roofs at JKIA.
He blamed the leaks on the previous administration, stating that inadequate maintenance under the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime led to the current issues.
“When we got to the office, we found out that many of our airports are in a pathetic state and JKIA leaking is a result of that,” Murkomen asserted, emphasizing that the renovation at JKIA’s terminal 1C and I1 was sub-standard and intended only as a temporary solution.
