Wiper Democratic Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has given a condition to support the formation of a government of national unity advocated for by President William Ruto.
Speaking on Friday, July 19, Kalonzo said the Azimio Coalition will support Ruto’s calls only if he engages in a convention and not a dialogue.
He stated that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also called for a convention, which he believes is the way to form a transitional government of national unity.
“Unless that new cabinet takes place after what our leader, Raila, has called a convention, not a dialogue, then there can be engagement with regard to the interim arrangement of a transitional government of national unity,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo emphasized that the Azimio Coalition will not engage with the government in any way if this condition is not met.
He maintained that nothing will change as long as the Kenya Kwanza regime remains in place.
“We shall not join for the straightforward reason that such actions are a betrayal of the ideology and values of both our coalition parties and constituent parties. The cabinet reorganization and changing of office holders will only be cosmetic,” he said.
Additionally, he explained that any affiliate party or member of Azimio who opts to join the government of national unity proposed by Kenya Kwanza will do so as an individual and not on behalf of the coalition.
“Should any of our members opt to join the proposed Kenya Kwanza-led broad-based government of national unity, we shall not be part of that decision. They will actually be joining in their individual capacities, not on behalf of Azimio.”

Gen Z vs Government
Kalonzo reiterated that the coalition will stand with Gen Z and the people of Kenya in their fight against the government.
He explained that the coalition will not participate in or support the proposed broad-based government of national unity, as it is a betrayal to the Kenyan people, particularly Gen Zs and millennials.
“We reiterate our public position that when it comes to siding with Gen Z and the Kenyan people versus the Kenya Kwanza regime, our decision is as obvious as day and night. We will always side and stand with the people of Kenya,” Kalonzo stated.

Goons Attack Kalonzo
This comes a day after goons invaded the Azimio Coalition parliamentary group meeting on July 17, forcing Kalonzo to cut short a press briefing.
Raila had already left the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation venue before the meeting was disrupted by the youths.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna condemned the incident and pledged that action would be taken against those responsible.
