Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata received a special invitation from King Mswati III of Swaziland, following his development track record within Murang’a County.
Kang’ata shared images across his social media platforms showing some MCAs and county officials present in Swaziland.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Kang’ata noted that his presence in Swaziland, along with other county officials, stemmed from an invitation by the Government of His Majesty King Mswati of Swaziland, or Eswatini, to explain how devolution works in Kenya.
“I have been invited by the Government of His Majesty King Mswati, Swaziland, or Eswatini to explain how devolution works in Kenya. Very good reception,” read part of the statement.
During the visit, Kang’ata was accompanied by Ruchu Ward MCA Naomi Nyambura, Muguru Ward MCA Muchiri MOES, and CEC Water,Mary Magochi.
Kang’ata Invited to Swaziland by King Mswati
In addition to explaining how devolution works to the King, the Murang’a Governor witnessed the launch of newly built classrooms worth E1.7 million at Labotsibeni Primary School (Ksh 12.75 million) by the Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development, S’khumbuzo Dlamini, through the Regional Development Fund (RDF).
The launch was also attended by other international delegates from Zambia and Ghana, who were in the country for the Local Government Conference.

Irungu Kang’ata has been Murang’a County’s governor since August 2022.
He has received significant praise from his fellow governors, other leaders within the country, and citizens for his transformative development initiatives within the county.
His administration’s achievements span healthcare, agriculture, education, infrastructure, and digital innovation, earning him accolades such as the 2024 Innovative Management Award from the African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) and the title of best-performing governor in the 2024 Infotrak rankings, with a 68% approval rating.
Among Kang’ata’s flagship programs is Kang’ata Care, which enabled him to win the AAPAM Gold Award for its innovative approach to healthcare.
About King Mswati
This program provides comprehensive health coverage, including Ksh 25,000 for secondary school fees, Ksh 10,000 for childbirth, and Ksh 10,000 for marriage events for principal members.
King Mswati III, born Makhosetive Dlamini on April 19, 1968, is the king of Eswatini, a small country in Southern Africa with 1.2 million people.
He became king in 1986 at the age of 18 after his father, King Sobhuza II, who ruled for 82 years.

Mswati III is the last absolute monarch in Africa.
In 2018, King Mswati III officially changed the country’s name from Swaziland to Eswatini to reflect the nation’s cultural heritage and move away from its colonial-era name.
Eswatini, meaning “land of the Swazis” in the Swazi language, is now the official name.
The country is a landlocked kingdom in Southern Africa, bordered by South Africa and Mozambique.
