Popular gospel artist Karangu Muraya publicly apologised to his followers months after receiving backlash over comments he made in support of the Social Health Authority (SHA).
In a message shared on Saturday, July 19, Muraya admitted that his earlier remarks may have offended Kenyans and asked for forgiveness.
Karangu clarified that he was not paid to promote the organisation but was only expressing gratitude after it helped cover his brother’s hospital bill following a road accident.
Karangu Muraya pleads for forgiveness
“Sometimes back, I mentioned SHA just because it had paid some money for my brother, who had a huge bill after having a road accident. I was not paid to say so, I was just giving a true testimony out of excitement,” he stated.
Karangu revealed that he had received numerous insults from followers who questioned his motive since his endorsement for SHA.
Muraya went on to plead for forgiveness from his fans, saying that forgiveness would bring peace and healing to his family, especially to his brother, Paul Muraya, who has been bedridden since February.
“Your forgiveness will make my brother, who has been bedridden since February to recover. Please forgive us and help me to pray for him,” he said.
He asked for forgiveness from those offended by his earlier sentiments, noting that he acted out of excitement and appreciation.
Muraya’s previous speech on SHA
The apology follows sustained online criticism targeting Muraya over his May 23, 2025, remarks during a meeting held at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s official residence in Karen.
This event brought together several Kikuyu vernacular musicians, including Samidoh and Ngaruiya Junior, who discussed the creative sector’s growth and government support.

While addressing the forum, Karangu Muraya recounted the difficulty his family had faced while caring for his hospitalised brother and revealed that SHA had stepped in to offset a Ksh 460,000 medical bill at Karira Mission Hospital in Mwea.
His emotional testimony highlighted the positive impact of the new health scheme, and he encouraged the public to support it.
“My own brother has been hospitalised since February. Yesterday, SHA paid Kshs 460,000, without their support, I would have started creating WhatsApp groups,” Karangu Muraya said.
Muraya says he was not paid
His remarks were met with scepticism and outrage on social media, with many users accusing him of being used to sanitize a government initiative that had faced public criticism.

In his apology, Karangu Muraya maintained that he was not paid to promote SHA and only shared his personal experience, but recognised that the message may have been misinterpreted. He concluded by quoting James 5:16, urging people to confess, pray, and heal one another.
His post has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some accepting his apology while others continue to demand more accountability regarding public figures endorsing government programmes.
