Kenya Airways has temporarily suspended flights to Mauritius.
The airline in a statement on Thursday, February 27, explained that the move was necessitated by an urgent cyclone warning issued by the country’s weather department.
Also, the decision aligns with the temporary closure of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) as the region braces for the impact of Tropical Cyclone Class 3.
According to Mauritius authorities, the cyclone is expected to hit the island and possibly affect other neighboring countries.
“Tropical Cyclone Class 3 is expected to hit the islands of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean and possibly other neighbouring countries starting today.
“Mauritius government authorities have issued alerts concerning the cyclone’s impact, the duration of which is currently unknown,” stated Kenya Airways.

Kenya Airways Issues Directive to Customers
However, the duration and full impact of the cyclone remain uncertain.
In the statement, Kenya Airways expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the disruption and reassured passengers that their safety remains the airline’s top priority.
“Due to the urgent cyclone warning issued by the government’s weather department, we regret to inform our customers that we have temporarily suspended flights to Mauritius, effective immediately.
“This decision follows the temporary closure of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU),” Kenya Airways stated.
The airline encouraged affected customers to check their flight status through its official website or reach out via WhatsApp and social media channels for assistance.

Cyclone warnings of this magnitude often lead to major disruptions in air travel, impacting thousands of passengers and business operations across the region.
Passengers scheduled to travel to or from Mauritius in the coming days are advised to stay updated on travel advisories and make alternative arrangements where necessary.
