Kenya Airways (KQ) has announced a landmark partnership with London Metropolitan University to introduce specialized degree and master’s programs.
In a statement dated February 21, KQ outlined that the initiative aims to transform aviation education and workforce development.

The degree programs in the pipeline, according to KQ, include master’s programs in airline and airport corporate management and aviation management in the digital age.
Additionally, a bachelor’s program in airline, airport, and aviation management will also be offered.

“As the partnership unfolds, a suite of aviation-focused degree programs will be introduced, including master’s programs in airline & airport corporate management and aviation management in the digital age, as well as a bachelor’s program in airline, airport & aviation management,” read the statement in parts.
Kenya Airways to Introduce Degree and Masters Programs in Aviation
KQ has applied for a license from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) to ensure the highest quality of education.

The airline mentioned that, during this interim period, the specialized courses will be available exclusively to KQ employees.
However, the program will be opened to the broader public once government approval is secured, offering affordable and accessible training across Kenya and the region.
In addition to these programs, the London Metropolitan University will offer a 70% scholarship to KQ employees pursuing aviation-related bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Furthermore, the university will supply essential training resources, workshops, and certificates, with the potential for scholarship benefits to extend to employees’ family members.

According to Kenya Airways, this strategic partnership with London Metropolitan University underscores its commitment to fostering industry-academic collaboration, enhancing employee capabilities, and driving innovation in the aviation sector.
“By leveraging London Met’s world-class academic expertise and KQ’s industry leadership, the partnership will provide KQ employees with access to specialized training programs, academic advancement opportunities, and cutting-edge research in aviation,” the statement further reads.
“The partnership aligns with Kenya Airways’ strategic initiative to strengthen industry-academic ties, enhance workforce capability, and drive innovation in aviation. It also reflects London Met’s commitment to global.”
Speaking at the event, Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Airways, highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership.

He said the collaboration is a testament to KQ’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and the development of human capital.
“By investing in education and skills development, we are not only empowering our employees but also shaping the future of aviation in Kenya and beyond.” Kilavuka said.
On his part, Tom Shivo, Chief Human Resources Director at Kenya Airways, emphasized the partnership’s focus on employee growth and development, adding, “It’s an investment in our most valuable asset—our talent.”
“Our people are the backbone of our success. This partnership will provide our employees with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in their careers and contribute to the continued success of Kenya Airways,” he noted.
The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a ceremony held at the KQ Pride Centre, attended by key stakeholders from both organizations, government officials, and industry regulators.
