The Kenya Railways Corporation has issued a public notice to the members of the public that it has temporarily suspended commuter train services.
In a statement on June 25, 2025, Kenya Railways stated that the suspension of the railway service will affect commuters from Nairobi-Ruiru, Nairobi-Embakasi village, Nairobi-Lukenya and Nairobi-Syokimau.
“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter services for Nairobi-Ruiru, Nairobi-Embakasi village, Nairobi-Lukenya and Nairobi-Syokimau have been temporarily suspended,” read part of the statement.
According to the Commuter Train Service, the decision was made as a precautionary measure, citing the safety of its customers as a top priority.
Kenya Railways stated that it will notify the public once normal services resume.
Additionally, the service has apologized to members of the public for any inconvenience caused.
The announcement comes in the wake of the ongoing Gen Z protests.

The Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) service is a railway network operated by Kenya Railways to provide transportation within Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
It has undergone modernization and expansion efforts, including the addition of new lines and stations, to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion.

The routes includes;
Nairobi-Embakasi Village: This line includes stops at Aviation, Taj Mall, Avenue Park, Pipeline, Quarry, Donholm, and Makadara.
Nairobi-Syokimau: This route has intermediate stops at Imara Daima and Makadara.
Nairobi-Ruiru: This line has several stops including Kahawa, Githurai, Mwiki, Maili Saba, Dandora, S. Mtwinda, and Makadara.
Nairobi-Kikuyu: This route includes stops at Thogoto, Dagoretti Station, Limuru, Kibera, Lenana, Satellite, Gatwekera, Mashomoni, and Laini Saba.
Nairobi-Lukenya/Athi River: This route has stops at Mlolongo, Embakasi, Imara Daima, and Makadara.
