The Kenya Red Cross has issued an update on the progress of rescue operations at Isiolo Girls High School, Isiolo County after a fire broke out.
According to a statement from the first responders, officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Fire Brigade rushed to the scene to offer support.
The fire, whose source is yet to be determined, broke out at the institution on Saturday, September 7, evening.
Additionally, the teams were able to successfully contain the flames that engulfed the Isiolo Girls High School dormitory.
Further, the Kenya Red Cross has detailed that three minor injuries resulted from the fire, and first aiders attended to the casualties.
“KDF and the Kenya Airports Authority Fire Brigade contained the situation. Three minor injuries were attended to, and Psychological First Aid was provided,” the statement read in part.

Kenya Red Cross on Details of the Isiolo Girls Fire
When the fire broke out, it caused panic among the students, who were seen in videos trying to make their way out of the dormitory.
In addition, parents and guardians rushed to the school to rescue the students and attempt to salvage property.
At around 8:31 PM, the Kenya Red Cross and police announced that it had dispatched rescue teams to the scene.
“A fire incident has been reported at Isiolo Girls High School, Isiolo County. Response teams activated,” the Kenya Red Cross announced.
The incident came days after a fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri killed 21 pupils.

Hillside Endarasha Academy Fire
At least 16 pupils died following a fire outbreak at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni West, Nyeri County, on Friday, September 6 at night.
After visiting the scene of the fire, Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura reported that the number of pupils who had not been accounted for was 48.
He revealed that 108 students have been accounted for while 15 parents have reported that they could not trace their children.
On the other hand, Nyeri County Commissioner Pius Murugu stated that a postmortem will be conducted on Monday, September 9, to reveal the identities of the pupils who burnt beyond recognition.
