A 38-year-old Kenyan man living in the United States has been arrested in a federal sting operation after allegedly attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor.
Authorities said Stanley Amalemba Ambeyi, a mechanic, was caught in an undercover investigation after believing he was communicating with a woman on an online dating site in December 2024.
In reality, he was corresponding with federal officers participating in Operation Take Back America, a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigrants and transnational crime networks.
According to court documents, the chats stretched over several days before the “woman” offered to introduce him to her 15-year-old niece.

At one point, the woman claimed to have handed the phone to the teenager, who then began communicating directly with Stanley. The text exchange lasted over 14 hours, starting around 10:30 in the morning and continuing past midnight the next day.
Throughout this period, Stanley engaged in explicit negotiations, clearly expressing his intention and willingness to pay for sexual encounters with someone he understood to be underage.
The conversation included detailed discussions about the nature of the acts, payment, consent, and repeatedly confirmed the girl’s age, with Stanley also inquiring whether the interaction was a police sting.
Investigators say he agreed to pay $150 (Ksh 18,600) in exchange for sexual favors.

The chat shifted from conversations with the woman posing as a stepmother to direct communication with the 15-year-old girl, who confirmed her age and negotiated the terms.
Stanley agreed to meet the girl late at night and was aware of her underage status.
On December 19, Ambeyi allegedly drove nearly 80 kilometers from his home in Birmingham, Alabama, to Blount County, Tennessee, expecting to meet the girl.
Instead, he walked into a sting operation at a surveillance-rigged house, where he was confronted by television host Chris Hansen and later arrested by federal agents.
The arrest was filmed for Hansen’s online series Takedown with Chris Hansen.
Ambeyi faces multiple charges, including first-degree human trafficking, electronic solicitation of a child, traveling to meet a child for sexual activity, and possession of a firearm as an undocumented immigrant.
A loaded handgun was found on him at the time of arrest, while his vehicle, a white Toyota Land Cruiser, contained a machete, lubricant, and condoms.
Investigators said Ambeyi claimed he carried the weapons for protection in his Birmingham neighborhood and workplace. He initially denied the allegations, insisting he had arranged to meet the minor’s aunt, but later conceded that the evidence could lead to his deportation.
Sheriff Mark Moon, who was part of the operation, expressed disappointment, saying it was tragic that “someone seeking the American dream would engage in criminal behavior that destroys such opportunities.”

Ambeyi appeared in federal court in Huntsville, Alabama, on May 22, 2025, where he was formally charged with being an alien in possession of a firearm.
Magistrate Judge Gray M. Borden ordered him detained pending trial, ruling that prosecutors had presented sufficient evidence to establish probable cause.
