Kenyan oil tycoon Abdinasir Ali Hassan, president of HASS Petroleum Group, has set his sights on Mozambique’s natural gas and energy sectors in a potential deal that could reshape the region’s energy sector.
Speaking at a press briefing in Maputo on July 21 following a meeting with President Daniel Chapo, Hassan said his visit was aimed at initiating strategic partnerships between his company, the Mozambican government, and Oman’s state-linked energy firm OQ Trading.
“We are here to engage with President Chapo and present a solution for the oil and energy sector,” Hassan said. “We had a very fruitful discussion exploring how we can establish partnerships between the governments of Oman and Mozambique in relation to energy and petroleum.”
He noted that Mozambique presents unique investment opportunities due to its expansive coastline and strategic location in Southern and Eastern Africa.
“Mozambique has about four ports—Beira, Maputo, Nacala—and others that can serve landlocked countries such as Malawi, Zambia, the DRC, Congo, and Zimbabwe,” Hassan said. “It’s a central position and a hub where we can do business and work together.”

“He received us very warmly and gave us his blessing,” Hassan said. “The government is ready to work with us, and we are looking to move to the next level.”
HASS Petroleum, headquartered in Nairobi, operates in more than 11 countries across East Africa and maintains offices in London and Dubai.
While traditionally focused on downstream operations such as fuel retailing, the company has recently expanded into upstream ventures and energy infrastructure development.
The Mozambican project, if realized, would mark an important shift for HASS into broader energy partnerships and infrastructure, backed by OQ Trading, the international commercial arm of the Omani government.
Though no formal agreements were signed during the visit, both parties signaled optimism for future cooperation.
