Kenyans used Mchanga online platformto raise funds for victims of anti-finance bill protests which started on Tuesday, 18, June 2024.
The funds are designated to cover hospital bills for victims and assist families with burial preparations.
Hanifa Farsafi, known as Hanifa, shared a link to the online fundraiser on her X account, urging the public for support.
“Hello guys. This is an Mchanga changa link for the injured and dead. Please support and help so we’d help everyone who has been harmed.
We already contributed for Rex and Evans families, and they’ll receive the money today. Please share and contribute,” she posted.

Hanifa also asked for patience from contributors, explaining that the platform takes time to release funds but assured that every cent donated would be accounted for.
So far, the fundraiser has collected around Ksh19 million, surpassing its initial goal of Ksh10 million, with 26 days remaining.
The campaign has sparked a wave of emotions on Twitter (X), with many Kenyans expressing pride in the progress.
One user, Mbithe Nzomo, noted the rapid growth of donations as she affirmed the solidarity shown.
“Could not be prouder of the Kenyan people. When I contributed to the M-Changa this morning we were at Ksh3 million. Now we’re at 13.4 million! Hundreds are queuing to donate blood. The solidarity has been profound, even amidst the heartbreak.”
Similarly, another user, Crazy Nairobian, encouraged Kenyans to continue their contributions to support the victims.
In addition to monetary donations, a blood donation drive is underway at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to collect enough blood for the victims.
The fundraiser was rolled out following mass protests against the finance bill on June 25, which resulted in fatalities and injuries as police fired live ammunition to disperse demonstrators attempting to enter the parliament.
Amid the chaos, a section of the parliament was set on fire, accompanied by heavy gunfire as police clashed with defiant protesters.
