Kericho leaders have appealed to President William Ruto, urging him to nominate another resident from Kericho to the Gender Cabinet Secretary (CS) position following the rejection of Stella Soi Lang’at by Parliament.
Speaking at a youth empowerment event that involved the distribution of equipment, Kericho Governor Erick Mutai expressed his appreciation to the president for his ongoing support.
“We had Stella Soi as a CS nominee, and for one reason or another, she was not approved. I still want to thank the president and appeal for a replacement from Kericho County,” he said.
While addressing attendees Mutai emphasized the need for servant leadership for any person appointed to the position noting that true power belongs to the people.
“What we are looking for is servant leadership and whoever is given the position should know that power belongs to the people,” said the governor.
Kericho Governor Praises Ruto’s Broad Based Govt
Additionally, he praised President Ruto for forming a broad and inclusive government that represents all Kenyans.
“I thank the President because right now we have a very broad-based government which every Kenyan is part of, and I think William Ruto will go down in history as the first President who chose to put aside any self-interest and create a government for everybody,” he stated.
He reiterated that Kericho is a stronghold for President Ruto and expressed optimism that the president would consider the county for the Cabinet position.
“As Kericho County we request that in his consideration he’ll still give us the CS position, Kericho county is the stronghold of the president, and I know that he will bring the position here,” remarked Mutai.

Parliament Rejects Stella Soi Lang’at’s Nomination
Their appeal comes days after the National Assembly Committee on Appointments rejected Stella Soi Lang’at’s nomination as Gender CS.
According to a tabled report following the rigorous vetting of cabinet nominees, the committee noted that Stella Soi failed to demonstrate adequate knowledge of issues related to the docket she had been assigned.
“Stella Soi Lang’at did NOT demonstrate adequate knowledge of topical, administrative and technical issues touching on the portfolio to which she had been nominated; and lacked the requisite abilities, and qualities to be approved for appointment to the office of Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, The Arts and Heritage,” read part of the report.
