Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has invited Dr Branice Munyasa to talk to her daughters after she narrated her success story that touched the lawmaker.
Khalwale who contributed in Munyasa’s during her reign as Ikolomani Member of Parliament in Kakamega was amazed by how the budding medic defied odds to excel in school.
“Doctor, what a journey to success! Looks like I happened in your life at the right time. I want you to meet and talk to my daughters,” said Khalwale.
Munyasa narrated how her grandmother and aunties took her through her primary education.
“I have been educated by relatives 90% of the time. I grew up at my grandmother in makhokho before she talked to my eldest aunty to take me in.
This led to my 2 years in Kisumu. Here, I learnt a bit of dholuo which I try to speak to date though it evades me these days,” she said.
Courtesy of her grandmother she again taken in by a second aunty who educated her from class 2 at Eregi primary in Vihiga County.
“I loved my books for some reason I already knew they were my only ticket out. Even at that age, I would wake up in the middle of the night and put my legs in water and revise. My classmates in Eregi will tell you they only beat me once,” she said.
She scored impressive 421 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) leading in her constituency.
Further, she narrated how her uncle then approached Ikolomani Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for bursary. Dr Khalwale was the area MP.
This, she said, eased her school fees burden from her aunty and she ended up at the prestigious Kenya High.
Advise to Girls
Accordingly, she advised the youth stating that any girl can achieve anything they set their mind to.
She said girls should do their work and trust in God.
“You can see why I don’t know how to ask for help. I have been looking out for myself since I could remember.
While some of you may call it a trauma response, I call it survival,” said Munyasa.

The conversation started after Branice shared her photo in a banana farm in Kakamega, recalling past years with nostalgia.
