Deputy President Kithure Kindiki faced a difficult time while addressing residents of Nyeri at a stadium, where some attendees were chanting “wantam” slogans. This slogan, associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, depicts President William Ruto as a man who cannot be reelected in 2027.

A group of youths from Othaya gathered outside the stadium’s perimeter fence, heckling  Kindiki as the DP presided over a development event. Security officers eventually dispersed the group, allowing the event to proceed as planned. Additional police officers were deployed to maintain order.

During his speech, Kindiki accused Gachagua of misleading the region.

He further accused his predecessor of belittling leaders within the Mount Kenya region, urging respect for all leaders despite political differences.

“You cannot claim that you alone are the wise one and that everyone else is foolish. You are not the only one who knows everything. Are you God?” Kindiki said angrily.

Kindiki emphasized that the Kenya Kwanza administration is focused on fulfilling its promises to Kenyans and will not be distracted by anyone.

“The trend of leaders trying to intimidate others must stop! We must respect one another, respect is not slavery,” he stated.

For a while, Gachagua has been facing criticism from Ruto’s allies, including Kindiki, for urging Mount Kenya residents to shun individuals associated with Kindiki, including artists whom he called on the public to boycott.

Gachagua accused several musicians of accepting payments (allegedly KSh 50,000 each) to attend a meeting at Kindiki’s residence in Karen on March 23, 2025.

He claimed these artists were being used to spread misinformation and undermine the region’s unity, urging residents to unfollow them on social media and boycott their music unless they issued public apologies to the community.

Gachagua Accused of Popularising Divisive Politics

Ruto’s allies, led by Kindiki, have condemned Gachagua’s rhetoric as divisive and counterproductive.

Tasked with consolidating support in Mount Kenya for Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, Kindiki dismissed Gachagua’s calls for boycotts as “empty noise,” asserting his commitment to engaging with artists and grassroots leaders.

For instance, Kindiki announced plans to invite 500 more artists to his residence in Karen, emphasizing that he would not be “lectured” by Gachagua.

Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, also a Ruto ally, condemned Gachagua’s attacks, urging leaders to focus on unity and constructive dialogue rather than provoking conflict.
