KPSEA The KPSEA is a key component of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
CBC was introduced in 2017 to reduce the over-emphasis on theoretical examination to competency.
The assessment took place from October 28 to October 30, 2024, with over 1.3 million Grade 6 learners across the country sitting for the exams.
The exams covered a range of subjects, including Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Kiswahili, Creative Arts, and Social Studies.

KPSEA Exams
KPSEA evaluates learners’ competencies, knowledge, and skills developed during Grades 4 to 6.
It focuses on assessing both academic and practical skills.
KPSEA is organized in two parts: formative and summative tests.
Formative Assessment is a continuous evaluation by teachers during Grades 4, 5, and 6.
It accounts for 60% of the final score.
On the other hand, summative assessment is a national assessment conducted at the end of Grade 6 by KNEC, contributing 40% to the final score.
KPSEA marks the end of the primary circle under the CBC system with learners moving to Junior Secondary School (JSS) in Grade 7 in 2025.
