Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has announced completion of the design of an innovative passenger terminal at Kisumu Port.
The terminal according to the authority sets stage for cruise ships to start docking at the port in the near future.
In a statement, KPA said the terminal will transform travel in the Lake region with unique indoor and outdoor spaces, offering impressive views of Lake Victoria.
The project also features a floating roof design offering natural breezes for utmost comfort.
“This cutting-edge terminal is set to transform travel in the Lake region with its unique fusion of indoor and outdoor spaces, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Victoria and a soaring floating roof designed to harness natural breezes for maximum comfort,” said KPA.
The Kisumu Port Project is a collaborative effort with TradeMark Africa, an organization that is actively engaging in initiatives that support East Africa’s regional trade and integration.

Kisumu Port Features
Other stunning features attached to the project are concession areas, drop-off and arrival zones, ticketing facilities, and screening sections.
Additionally, the port will be equipped with check-in counters and health services.
Besides, arriving immigration and customs facilities will be established at the ports site for review of passports, visas, and other supporting documents of every foreign national.
“The terminal showcases a public concourse featuring concession areas, drop-off and arrival zones, ticketing facilities, and screening sections. Moreover, it includes passenger processing zones equipped with check-in counters, immigration and customs facilities, as well as port health services,” KPA uttered.
Restaurants, forex Bureaus, and offices for taxi and tour operators will be readily available within the terminal premises.

Standard Composition
For optimized passenger flow, the terminal includes segregated areas for ferry passengers with substantial cargo, local travelers, and international/VIP guests.
Furthermore, the port can accommodate a capacity of over 500 passengers at the Jetty and 1000 at the ferry terminal per hour.
This facility will work towards streamlining travel operations and deliver an exceptional experience for all visitors.
KPA has also stated that other landing sites across the lake region are also undergoing refurbishment to support this development.
Furthermore, the authority stated that construction is currently underway at the Homa Bay pier, with Kisumu poised to emerge as a central water transport hub.
