The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a mandatory register data clean up exercise and verification of taxpayers’ details.
In a statement on Monday, June 23, KRA said the ongoing exercise is aimed at ensuring the integrity of the taxpayers’ register with a view to enhance service delivery to all taxpayers.
“KRA would like to notify all registered taxpayers of the ongoing data clean up exercise of taxpayers’ Personal Identification Number (PIN) registration details,” KRA said.
The Authority explained that it has rolled out One Time Password (OTP) for update of taxpayers’ contacts in the iTax system as part of the data clean up exercise.
Contact Verification Process
Upon logging into iTax, the system will display the mobile number registered in iTax through which an OTP will be sent for validation of contact details.
Where the number is incorrect, taxpayers will be required to capture the correct mobile number through which an OTP will be sent to enable access to the iTax system.
“We urge all registered taxpayers to update/correct their registration details as appropriate, on iTax, including their phone number, physical address, email address, physical location of businesses, residency status, directorships or partnerships held,” stated KRA.
Kenyans can call KRA’s Contact Centre on telephone 020 4 999 999 or 0711 099 999 for clarification.
The public can also reach KRA via the email address callcentre@kra.go.ke or visit the nearest Tax Service Office or Huduma centre.

Filing KRA Tax Returns
Besides, the Authority has encouraged Kenyans to file their tax returns before the end of the financial year, June 30, 2024.
On June 18, KRA announced that over 4,000,000 taxpayers had already filed their 2023 tax returns.
“This is a significant rise compared to 2017, where only 2 million taxpayers had filed their returns by the deadline,”KRA said.
The Authority attributed this to the growing awareness and understanding of the importance of fulfilling tax obligations among taxpayers.
As a sign of appreciation, KRA rolled out the Tax Amnesty program – a rare opportunity for you to get your penalties and interest forgiven!
“To benefit from this program, simply file and pay all outstanding taxes before the June 30, 2024, deadline,” KRA said.
