The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has issued an explanation on how 2024 and previous years’ Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates who missed previous placement applications can apply for degree courses.
When KUCCPS opened its system for the 2026 application to universities, colleges and TVET institutions, it noted that the process targets the 2025 KCSE class as well as Form Four leavers from previous years.
The 2025 KCSE candidates can apply for both degree and TVET programmes, while Form Four leavers from previous years are limited to TVET courses through the portal.
However, in response to a query from an applicant, KUCCPS clarified that previous KCSE candidates who qualified for university admission can still seek placement for degree courses, but not through the portal.
KUCCPS Says Students Who Missed Past Placement to Send Formal Email Requests
According to the placement service, these students can send a special request to KUCCPS via email and include their index number, the year they sat for the exam, their telephone number, and their email address.
KUCCPS will then get in touch to guide them through what is referred to as the late application process.
“2024 Form Four leavers who qualified for degree programmes but did not apply last year should send a formal request for consideration by email to [email protected],” KUCCPS said.

The clarification follows growing concern among candidates who say they have been locked out of the system despite meeting the minimum university entry requirements.
Students who missed the 2024 application window cannot apply for degree courses through regular placement unless it is for the Open University of Kenya (OUK).
Anyone who sat for KCSE even many years ago or already holds a degree is eligible to apply for programs at the Open University, provided they attained a minimum of a C+ grade.
“I need to make it very clear: there is no way you can apply for a degree through KUCCPS unless you are applying to the Open University,” KUCCPS CRO stated at a past event.
“The Open University is a special institution where all the training takes place online. Applications are open throughout the year, and you can apply anytime through our portal.”

KUCCPS Supports Centres
The online application opened on April 7, 2026, and will run until May 6, 2026.
This comes after KUCCPS rolled out a national campaign to mobilise and support Form Four leavers applying for programmes offered in universities and colleges for the 2026/2027 placement cycle.
Applicants who require assistance or career guidance are advised to visit any of the designated institutions, where KUCCPS officers have been deployed to offer support, from Monday, April 13, 2026, to Friday, April 24, 2026.
For further enquiries, candidates can contact KUCCPS through its official phone lines at 020 5137400 or 0713 924 444, or via email at [email protected].
