The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has launched a new course for students who scored a C grade in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
The new course has been introduced through a partnership between KUCCPS and the Kenya School of Law (KSL).

For the first time, KUCCPS has opened applications for the Diploma in Law program at KSL, allowing students who may have thought a career in the legal field was out of reach to enrol.
Traditionally, joining the legal profession in Kenya has been limited to students with high grades, particularly those qualifying for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree.

However, with this new partnership, students who scored a C (plain) can now enter the legal field through a structured Paralegal Training Program at KSL.

About the KUCCPS and KSL Course
The course provides foundational legal knowledge and prepares students for careers as court clerks, legal assistants, investigation officers, and case management officers in law firms, corporate organizations, and government agencies.
Speaking during the launch at the KUCCPS offices in Nairobi on Monday, February 10, KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome emphasized the importance of expanding educational opportunities.
“This is a step toward ensuring all students, regardless of their KCSE grade, have access to quality education and rewarding careers. KUCCPS remains committed to creating diverse pathways for learners,” she said.
Also, KSL Director Dr. Henry Mutai noted that there was an increasing demand for skilled paralegals in Kenya’s legal system.
“This program equips students with essential legal skills to support the justice system. Through this partnership, we are making legal education more accessible and impactful,” he added.
KSL now becomes the 18th public institution outside the Ministry of Education to integrate with the KUCCPS placement system, joining institutions such as the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, and the Kenya Forestry College.

Eligibility and How to Apply
To qualify for the Diploma in Law course, applicants must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of C (plain) with at least a C+ in English or Kiswahili. The programme runs for two years, consisting of three terms per academic year, with a three-month attachment at the end of the second year.
The first-year tuition fee is Ksh. 131,000, payable in three termly instalments, while the second-year fee totals Ksh. 136,000.
The placement portal opened on January 24, 2025, and will remain open until February 14, 2025.
Moreover, the Diploma in Law program is structured to accommodate both regular students and working professionals. For those with jobs, evening virtual classes are available, making it easier to balance studies with other commitments.
Form Four graduates with a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) from the year 2000 to 2024 are eligible to apply for the May 2025 intake through the online portal here.
