The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened its application portal for primary school teachers to pursue further studies.
In a notice on August 7, KUCCPS Primary Teacher Certificate (P1) and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Certificate holders can now apply to upgrade to diploma level.
“Do You Hold a P1 or ECDE Certificate? You can now upgrade your qualification to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) through KUCCPS placement.”
KUCCPS directed interested P1 and ECDE certificate holders to submit their applications through its portal.
The Service said the DPTE is available in all public Teacher Training Colleges (TTC).
Here’s a chance to upgrade your qualification to Diploma level. Log in to the KUCCPS application system through the link http://teachersupgrade.kuccps.ac.ke and select a public TTC of your choice.
KUCCPS emphasized that applicants must have a certificate in P1 or Early Childhood Development Education.
It urged qualified applicants to grab the opportunity and start their DPTE in August 2025.
Apply now and begin your upgrade programme this August.
KUCCPS said the Ministry of Education has introduced the programme to provide a pathway for teachers with P1 or ECDE certificates to upgrade their qualifications to diploma level.
The objective is to provide an opportunity to P1 and ECDE teachers to align enhance their career prospects and align with the demands of the Competency Based Education system.

Course Work & Requirements
The DPTE program includes coursework and practical teaching experience, which normally lasts for three years.
KCSE candidates must have at least a C (plain), but it accepts C- (minus) for those with hearing or visual impairments.

- Foreign Languages (German, French, Arabic and Mandarin (Chinese)

Teacher Specialization Requirements
DPTE mandatory subjects include English, Kiswahili, Physical and Health Education (PHE) and Kenyan Sign language for the hearing impaired.
Teachers are required to pick one subject per category for their speciality.
They specialise from the first year in at least three learning areas, preferably from any one of the four clusters.
