The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary closure of Jamuhuri Road this coming weekend to facilitate drainage and sewer works under the Talanta Sports City infrastructure project.
According to a public notice issued by KURA, the closure will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, and end at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
The construction works will take place around the Jamuhuri Sports Grounds, a key site for the government’s flagship sports development initiative.
“This is due to the construction of essential drainage and sewer infrastructure as part of the Talanta Sports City Project at Jamuhuri Sports Grounds,” the notice read.
KURA on Alternative Routes
The Talanta Sports City Project is part of the government’s larger effort to revamp sports infrastructure across the country, with Jamuhuri being one of the central sites.

The planned upgrades include modern stadium facilities, recreational spaces, and improved urban mobility in the surrounding areas.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, specifically Sanctuary Road and Kibera Drive, to ease congestion and minimize delays.
Signage and traffic marshals will be deployed to guide road users throughout the closure period.
The new drainage and sewer systems are expected to enhance sewage management and sanitation in the Jamuhuri area, particularly during the rainy season.
The Authority is urging the public to plan their journeys in advance and to follow traffic updates through KURA’s official communication platforms.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s patience as we work to improve urban infrastructure,” said Eng. Silas M. Kinoti, the authority’s director general.
