The Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) has announced the appointment of Linda Bach as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant leadership transition at one of the country’s most influential media institutions.
Linda Bach officially assumes office on October 16, 2025, succeeding outgoing CEO Rosalia Omungo, who has served in the role for the past eight years.
Linda Bach Appointed KEG CEO
The announcement was made in a formal communication to members, signed by KEG President Zubeidah Kananu, on September 29, 2025.
The Guild described Bach as a leader with deep experience and expertise, expressing confidence in her ability to advance the organisation’s mission of promoting media freedom, credibility, and professionalism.
“Linda Bach brings a wealth of experience to this role, and we are confident that under her leadership, KEG will continue to thrive and drive key initiatives that benefit our members and the wider media landscape.”
Transition and Governance Changes
As part of the transition, Linda Bach will step down as the Council Member representing the Print segment on the KEG Executive Council to avoid any conflict between her executive responsibilities and governance duties.
To fill this vacancy, Andy Kagwa of the Standard Group has been appointed as the new Council Member (Print).
In addition, Millicent Awuor has been elevated to chair the Programmes Committee, a role previously held by Bach.
These changes ensure that the Guild maintains continuity in leadership as Bach takes up her new role.
Kananu assured members that these changes would strengthen KEG’s operational framework, adding that the appointments were made with careful consideration to preserve institutional stability and forward momentum.
Farewell to Outgoing CEO Rosalia Omungo
The Guild paid glowing tribute to outgoing CEO Rosalia Omungo, whose eight-year tenure was marked by significant growth and advocacy for press freedom.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Rosalia for her sterling service and dedicated leadership throughout her years at the helm. Her contribution has been instrumental in positioning KEG as a leading voice in media advocacy and professionalism.”
Omungo’s leadership coincided with a challenging period for Kenya’s media sector, including issues of press freedom, digital disruption, and financial pressures within newsrooms.
Under her stewardship, KEG strengthened its advocacy for ethical journalism, professional training, and the protection of journalists.
The Guild also extended its best wishes to Omungo in her future endeavors, describing her departure as the end of an era but also the beginning of a new chapter for the organization.
Current Leadership Structure
The announcement reconfirmed KEG’s leadership structure. Zubeidah Kananu remains President, with Francis Openda as Vice President.
