Former United Democratic Alliance Secretary-General Cleophas Malala has addressed concerns that he has abandoned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) to join President William Ruto’s camp, responding to online speculation with a series of brief remarks on social media.
The speculation emerged after social media users questioned Malala’s recent political activities and visibility, with some alleging that he had become a “State House mole” and was preparing to switch allegiance to the government.
“So you’re a State House mole…??,” Heavens Mathew questioned.
Malala Responds to Claims Of Dumping Gachagua’s DCP to Join Ruto
Responding to the question, Malala dismissed the claim in a sarcastic tone, asking whether State House was “a zoo for mole conservation,” indicating he did not take the accusation seriously.
Other supporters urged him not to join the government and instead remain focused on opposition politics and the “Linda Mwananchi” movement. Malala acknowledged one of the comments by replying, “Noted with thanks.”
When another user claimed he was trending because of anticipated political fallout, Malala brushed off the suggestion, calling the commenter a “Prophet of Doom.”

He also reassured another supporter who cautioned him against “mixing things up,” replying in a colloquial manner that suggested he remained steadfast in his current political position.
Malala Breaks Silence on Alleged Fallout With Gachagua
The Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader dismissed claims of a fallout with party leader Rigathi Gachagua, describing the reports as propaganda aimed at weakening the opposition.
Speaking at a burial ceremony in Kakamega on Saturday, Malala said he remains united with Gachagua and reaffirmed his position as DCP deputy party leader. He stated that rumors of a rift were false and intended to create divisions within the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Since the Ruto administration knows it will go home, today it has sponsored propaganda that Rigathi Gachagua and I have differed. I want to tell those people spreading such propaganda that Gachagua and I are very much united,” Malala said.

Malala’s remarks came after speculation emerged following his absence from several high-profile opposition events. Malala maintained that he has no disagreements with Gachagua and remains loyal to the party leadership.
During the event, Malala also criticized the administration of President William Ruto, accusing it of failing to address development challenges in Kakamega. He cited shortages of medicine in hospitals and alleged inadequate funding for road projects in the county.
Malala further questioned plans to establish Ebola quarantine facilities in Kakamega, saying residents had concerns about the proposed locations, despite their support for disease preparedness measures.
He called on residents to remain united and oppose the planned establishment of the quarantine facilities in the county.
