The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a 5-day weather forecast covering the period between June 6 and June 10, projecting rainfall in select regions, with cool and cloudy conditions expected to persist in some areas.
In a notice issued on June 6, 2026, the department said some areas of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Coastal Region, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will receive rainfall.
Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans-Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties.
On the other hand, counties in Highlands East of the Rift Valley include Nairobi, Kiambu, and other Central Kenya counties.
According to the forecast, residents of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley, and Northeastern Kenya should expect intermittent cool, cloudy conditions.
“Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, the Rift Valley & Northeastern Kenya,” Kenya Met stated.
Where and When the Rain Will Fall
According to the weather department, areas in the West of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, Kisii, Kakamega, Nakuru, and Kisumu should expect sunny intervals in the morning, but in the afternoon, they should expect showers and thunderstorms over the weekend.
The department says this rainfall will decrease by next week, but sunny morning intervals will persist, with isolated showers in the afternoon.
Maximum temperatures in these regions are expected to range from 29°C to 13°C

Regional Outlook
The Southeastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and Tana River, should expect light showers over the weekend in the afternoon.
Residents in these areas should expect temperatures ranging from 14°C to 31°C across the week.
Further, Kenya Met stated that residents in the coastal region, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, should expect showers across 5 days, both during the day and night, with maximum temperatures ranging from 30°C to 31°C.
In the North-West, covering Turkana and Samburu, residents should brace themselves for sunny intervals in the mornings over the next 5 days, with minimum temperatures of 9°C and maximum temperatures of 37°C.
Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi Counties should expect cloudy mornings across 5 days, with sunny intervals in the afternoons and only a chance of showers over a few places on Saturday.
Temperatures in these regions will range from a minimum of 6°C and a maximum of 26°C.
The Northeastern parts of the country, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties, should expect sunny intervals all through, with maximum temperatures of up to 37°C.
Other regions with a chance of showers over the next 5 days include coastal areas such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 31°C.
Lastly, the Southeastern lowlands, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties are likely to receive showers only on Saturday and Sunday, sunny intervals in the afternoons and temperatures of 14°C to 30°C.
