How Learners Are Assessed Under CBC
Learners at the end of Pre-Primary 2 are assessed internally before transitioning to Grade 1 in Lower Primary (Grades 1–3).
In Grade 3, they sit a school-based national assessment that is not used for ranking or placement, after which they proceed to Upper Primary (Grades 4–6).
At Upper Primary level, learners are continuously assessed at each grade, with school-based assessments contributing 60 percent of the total score ahead of the Grade 6 national assessment, which accounts for the remaining 40 percent and marks the end of the primary cycle.
Placement into Junior Secondary School (Grades 7–9) is based on performance and learner interests.
