The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has revised retail fuel prices in Rwanda to record highs as the world continues to grapple with disruptions in oil transportation.
In a public notice dated June 5, RURA set the maximum retail price for Petrol at KSh 261 per liter (2,938 Rwadan Francs), and Diesel price at KSh 258.45 per liter (2,927 Rw Francs), effective from June 6 at 6:00 a.m.
“The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) informs the public that, effective 06 June 2026 at 6:00 a.m., the maximum retail pump prices for petroleum products are revised: Gasoline (Petrol): Not exceeding 2,938 Frw/L and Diesel: Not exceeding 2,927 Frw/L,” RURA directed.
RURA on Rwanda Fuel Hike
According to RURA, adjustments to the retail pump prices for petroleum products are due to international petroleum markets and supply conditions.
Further, the Authority said the adjustments are a measure by the government to safeguard fuel supply and limit the economic and consumer impact on Rwanda.
RURA emphasized that the government interventions currently in place have moderated the increase in fuel pump prices, maintaining stable prices.
RURA argued that government interventions have maintained fuel prices below the market pricing level.
Among the interventions, Rwanda has cushioned transport and freight services, as well as broader economic impacts, against global price increases through government-established measures, according to RURA.
Despite the fuel price changes, RURA clarified that the fare in the public transport sector will remain unchanged.
Moreover, the established support measures by the government will ensure that public transport operators are assisted in managing the higher fuel cost while maintaining affordable transport services for all commuters in Rwanda.
Additionally, RURA affirmed its commitment to monitoring global and regional market developments and to ensuring fair pricing, market stability, and a reliable nationwide fuel supply.
