Renowned entrepreneur behind Nairobi-based restaurant chain Wakalucy Fish Palace, Monica Waithera Chege, popularly known as Wakalucy across Nairobi’s streets and beyond, has died.
According to reports from friends, customers, and fellow Kenyans who confirmed her death on September 16, 2026, Chege died at the age of 46 after a long battle with cancer.
“Monica Waithera Chege, the entrepreneur behind Wakalucy Fish Palace, has died after a long battle with cancer,” shared Lilian Millen.
Monica Waithera was a single mother who is survived by three children: two daughters and a son.
Her children were actively involved in the family business and helped run Wakalucy Fish Palace outlets alongside their mother.
Nairobians Mourn Monica Waithera
Tributes shared following the death of Monica Waithera Chege highlighted her role in building Wakalucy Fish Palace and the impact of her business.
Fadhili described Chege as the hardworking woman behind Wakalucy Fish Palace and said the restaurant had several popular outlets.
“Monica Waithera Chege, the hardworking lady behind Wakalucy Fish Palace, has died after a long battle with cancer.”
Paul Neko said he had met Chege at Kasarani Car Wash Bar and remembered her as respectful and approachable.
“Always humble, soft-spoken, warm, friendly and deeply respectful to her customers.”
Neko also said her business provided employment opportunities to people from different communities.
“Wakalucy Fish Palace employed many people from different communities and gave them dignity through work.”
Wakalucy Fish Palace Branch Locations
At its peak, the brand operated multiple branches across Nairobi’s northern and eastern corridors, mainly along Thika Road, the Eastern Bypass and nearby estates.

Kasarani
The Kasarani outlet was among the best-known Wakalucy Fish Palace branches and is often described as the flagship.
It was located at Car Wash Pub along Kasarani Mwiki Road, near the Thika Road and Eastern Bypass corridor in Nairobi.
The outlet is also listed as Wakalucy Fish Palace – Kasarani on mapping and food platforms.
Kamakis
Another frequently cited branch was located in Kamakis along the Eastern Bypass and Thika Road corridor.
The outlet is commonly referenced as Wakalucy Fish Place Kamakis in reviews and food-related listings.
Mirema
Wakalucy Fish Palace also had a branch on Mirema Drive, off Thika Road.
The Mirema outlet was named among the restaurant’s key branches in tributes shared following Wakalucy’s death.

Kiambu Road
Another branch was listed as Wakalucy Fish Palace – Kiambu along Kiambu Road.

Ruiru was also cited among the locations where Wakalucy Fish Palace operated an outlet.
Juja was similarly listed among the restaurant’s branches and was associated with the wider network, which at its height served large numbers of customers.
SNL and Burudani
Tributes also referred to Wakalucy SNL and Wakalucy Burudani as additional outlets or branded joints associated with the restaurant network.
