Principal Secretary for the State Department of Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, has assured citizens that the government has ramped up measures to prevent the entry and spread of Ebola.
Speaking during the inspection of the Taveta-Holili One Stop Border Post on June 6, PS Omollo affirmed that the government has adequate response measures in place for the Ebola threat at the country’s border entry points.
According to the PS, some of the measures put in place include the strengthening of surveillance, screening and emergency response systems at the borders.
The Principal Secretary explained that the measures are being implemented through a collaboration with the county governments, health authorities and border management agencies.
“The Government is working closely with county governments, health authorities and border management agencies to strengthen surveillance, screening and emergency response systems,” PS Raymond Omollo noted.

PS Omollo on Kenya Ebola Outbreak Management
During the inspection the Raymond Omollo stated that the continued monitoring of Ebola has enabled preparedness measures at the entry point, preventing any threat.
Further, the PS noted that isolation facilities as well as response mechanisms by the government in coordination with the Ministry of Health will protect Kenyans from contracting the Ebola virus.
According to PS Omollo, the isolation facilities and response protocols established in Kenya are activated through the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and County governments.
In addition, border officers had been given directives by the government to conduct regular screening and monitoring of travelers to detect Ebola cases early and support emergency response efforts.
“What we have done as a nation, working with all our officers at our points of entry and exit, is to ensure that we are adequately prepared to handle and deal with any case should it arise. Working together with the Ministry of Health, we have put in place isolation facilities and response mechanisms to protect our citizens,” PS Raymond Omollo clarified.

Ebola Measures by the Government
The government will continue to provide public awareness, health advisories, and updates to ensure vigilance along the borders.
In addition, the PS assured that Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) under President William Ruto’s office were equipped and supported to perform their roles in managing the Ebola threat.
Further, the PS issued a directive to the agencies operating at the border to strengthen surveillance, enhance inter-agency coordination and ensure strict enforcement of laws governing trade and movement across the border.
The directive from the PS followed the emerging challenge of illegal cross-border trade affecting the Kenya-Tanzania border.
Traders along the Kenya-Tanzania border are said to have been involved in the smuggling of ethanol and the entry of counterfeit products into the country.
Despite the emerging challenges, the PS commended the NGAO officers for the maintenance and coordination of government programs at the grassroots level.
Away from the Ebola measures at the borders, during his visit to the Lesesia School and the Prize Giving Day ceremony at Sowene Secondary School, PS Raymond Omollo emphasized that education is an important investment in Kenya.
