A family in Kitsuru is in distress over their missing kin, Mercy Awuor, who was abducted after being hoodwinked for an employment opportunity.
Brian Andole in an interview narrated that his wife Mercy Awuor went missing on November 4, 2024, after she went to meet an individual who promised her an employment opportunity. Mercy later called her husband, informing him that she had been abducted.
“I received a missed call from my wife at around 3:00 p.m. on the day she went missing. I called her back immediately, and she told me that the people who had promised her a job opportunity were deceiving her and had forced her into a Probox vehicle,” Andole said.
Andole further revealed that his wife mentioned the place they took her looked like Maasai Mara. When she was about to provide more details about her location, her abductors quickly snatched the phone from her.

“When I tried to ask where she was being held, someone immediately grabbed the phone. The person who took the phone told me to prepare to send Ksh 150,000 or else we would have to collect her body if the money was not paid,” Andole narrated.
This incident prompted Andole to report the matter to the Kitisuru Police Station, where he was referred to Kabete Police Station for further action.

Upon arriving at Kabete Police Station, Andole alleges that the officers on duty demanded bribes to begin investigating his wife’s disappearance.
“The people who should have helped me were the officers at Kabete. If I had the money, they would have helped me.
“A police officer showed me the number they were tracking and demanded Ksh 500. I told him I only had Ksh 300 and sent it to him,” Awuor’s husband stated.

Even after paying, Andole did not receive the help he needed, as the officers kept taking him in circles and eventually directed him to Gigiri Police Station. At Gigiri, he still did not receive assistance. Andole recounted the ordeal in tears.
Andole’s ordeal comes at a time when the country has witnessed a surge in abductions.

Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on National Administration and Internal Security, Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja noted 59 cases of missing persons have been reported since June.
He disclosed that out of the 57 reported disappearances, 22 individuals have been found alive, two have been confirmed dead, and 29 remain missing and security agencies are expediting investigations into the unresolved cases.
Kanja also reiterated that police officers are not involved in those abductions.
