A man who was referred to as mad by the Nairobi County Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has been admitted to Mathari Mental Hospital, after being rescued from the Galleria Mall roundabout.
This followed widespread criticism that was unleashed at the county chief for turning the man away calling him mad after he found him living by the roadside.

“We received Samuel Kinyanjui this morning and we assessed him as a patient. He was brought in from the streets by good Samaritans. We found out that he suffers from a mental disorder that I will not disclose,” stated the doctor.
The county chief said that he would monitor his progress and ensure that he receives appropriate treatment and care.
Mosiria also stated that the man would be taken to a home for the aged upon completion of his treatment.
He also called upon well-wishers who have information on his family to let him know so that he can be reunited with them.
“I call upon anyone who may know him or his family to come forward so he can be reunited with his loved ones,” he stated.
Mosiria appeals for help
He also urged members of the public to go and visit him at the mental facility and offer any kind of support.
“To those who previously expressed their willingness to assist, we encourage you to step forward and fulfill your commitment to supporting his recovery and reintegration into society,” Mosiria made a passionate appeal.
Comedian Eric Omondi also offered to help the man after the video of him having a confrontation with Mosiria went viral.
“Where can I find this guy…This Video is extremely Heartbreaking. This guy represents Most Kenyans and the Situation on the ground. We will build him a small house. Please help me find him,” stated Omondi.

Mosiria received backlash for being insensitive and labeling the man ‘mad’ without a proper diagnosis. He was also faulted for not providing a solution for the man.
“Next time you meet a person like him please refer to them as “someone who has mental problems/challenges”do not use the word “mwendawazimu” like you referred to him that alone is stigma and disrespectful to him and to anyone having mental issues,” stated Joseph Masta on X.
