Moi University on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, announced a series of strategic measures aimed at addressing challenges that plagued the institution in 2024.
In a statement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Kosgey expressed the institution’s commitment to rebuilding its reputation and striving to become a leading university both nationally and internationally.
“I wish you all a Happy New Year 2025. We thank God for seeing us through the festive season, and we begin this year with hope and renewed strength. The focus for this year is to rebuild our university and steer it towards becoming the best university nationally and internationally,” the statement read.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted staff welfare as a key area of focus, following numerous strikes in 2024 due to delayed payments and unfavorable working conditions.
Moi University Highlights Staff Welfare Improvements
To prevent a recurrence of such incidents, Kosgey pledged to improve the work environment and invest in capacity building for staff.
His commitments include collaborating with staff unions, promoting departmental team-building activities, reviewing the university statutes, revising career progression guidelines, and ensuring a favorable medical scheme.
The VC also assured staff that his administration would sustain remittances for statutory deductions and create a robust social and mental health support system for both staff and students.

Another priority area for the Vice-Chancellor is resource mobilization and efficiency, especially after past concerns about resource wastage within the institution.
Kosgey assured staff and students that his administration would focus on mobilizing resources and ensuring their optimal use to avoid wastage in university operations.
Additionally, he committed to completing several stalled infrastructural projects that had been delayed due to financial constraints.
“We will focus on completing ongoing infrastructural projects, including the Amphitheater, the School of Science Complex, the PND Building, and Annex Phase I (SBE), to improve the university’s teaching and training facilities,” Kosgey stated.
Kosgey highlights plans to improve student’s welfare
The Vice-Chancellor also emphasized the importance of student welfare, noting that his administration would continue gathering feedback on student matters, including conducting student polling on the MUSO Constitution.
Kosgey further promised to revamp the university’s sports grounds to provide better facilities for students and enhance extracurricular activities.

In a bid to foster academic excellence, Kosgey announced plans to invite guest speakers and incorporate case studies to enrich the students’ academic experience.
He also committed to actively seeking both internal and external research grants to support the institution’s academic and research initiatives.
Kosgey highlighted the importance of The Endowment Fund established last year, emphasizing its role as a cornerstone of the university’s financial strategy.
“This initiative is essential for fostering innovation and ensuring that both students and the community have the resources they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world,” he noted.
