After months of chaos that paralyzed learning and threatened the dreams of thousands of students, Moi University finally held its 46th graduation on Thursday, December 19.
During the event, Prof. Dankit Nassiuma was installed as the Chancellor. Speaking after installation, Prof. Nassiuma termed the appointment as a great honour, thanking the government for the appointment.
“I do recognize the honour of being appointed as the Chancellor of Moi University by the government of Kenya. It is a great trust that has been given to me in this prestigious university,” said the newly appointed Chancellor.
He affirmed his commitment in his new role to collaborate with the various stakeholders in ensuring the university maintains its reputation.
Dankit to maintain the reputation of Moi University
“As your chancellor, I am committed to working alongside all stakeholders; government, professors and lecturers, staff, students, and the community to ensure that we not only maintain our reputation as one of the leading universities in Kenya, that we also create an inclusive learning environment that prepares our students for a great future,” added Dankit.
He has succeeded Professor Miriam Khamadi who was installed on September 13, 2024.

Dankit served as the Vice Chancellor and CEO of Africa International University from July 2013.
From 2007 to 2012, he was the Vice Chancellor at Kabarak University, where he managed the university’s operations and ensured academic excellence.
The professor has also worked as a Research and Statistics consultant for various organizations, accumulating nearly four decades of expertise in areas such as research training, statistical design and analysis, socio-economic studies, and agricultural research.
Career background
Between September 2012 and June 2013 Dankit served as the Director of the Institute for the Study of African Realities at Africa International University.

Additionally, he served as the Project Manager for the Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (KIHBS) under the Kenya Government from 2004 to 2007. This project was crucial for collecting and analyzing household-level economic data, which informed key policy decisions.
Professor Dankit holds both a PhD and a master’s degree in Statistics from the University of Manitoba, Canada.
He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Nairobi where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics between 1978 and 1981.
His academic background, combined with his professional experience, has made him a highly regarded expert in the field of academia and research.
