The County Government of Mombasa has lifted the temporary ban on beach access and construction activities following an updated meteorological review, which indicates improved weather conditions.
In a statement issued on May 27, 2025, Mombasa County, however, warned that deep-sea marine operators should exercise caution, as moderate swells could persist offshore.
“We are now in receipt of an updated review from the County Director of Meteorological Services indicating a significant reduction in wind speeds to a maximum of 16 knots, and a gradual decline in wave heights, based on revised models and direct observation,” part of the statement read.
“Caution is advised for deep-sea marine operators as moderate swells may still be experienced offshore.”
This follows after the Kenya Meteorological Department issued an advisory warning of strong winds and high waves along the coastal region.
In response, the County implemented precautionary measures, including the temporary closure of public beaches, suspension of marine activities, and halting of construction works to protect lives and property.
