The late Anne Nanyama is also the mother to Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi.
“I have received the sorrowful news of the passing of Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, the beloved mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, Fred Wetang’ula, and others,” stated the governor.
While expressing his condolences, the governor eulogized her as a mentor who transformed lives through her compassionate deeds.
Leaders send messages of condolence
“A remarkable community mobilizer, mentor, and family matriarch, she positively transformed countless lives through her compassion, wisdom, and selfless deeds. During this profoundly difficult time, may her family and loved ones find comfort and strength in the cherished memories of her remarkable life and the enduring love she leaves behind,” stated Lusaka.
Several leaders have extended their condolences to the family.

Taking to his X platform, the Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi wished strength and fortitude to the family.
“I send my deepest condolences to my brother Honourable Wetang’ula, Hon Wanyonyi and their entire family for this deep loss and pray that God grants them the fortitude and grace to bear Khukhu’s departure from our midst. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” wrote Kingi.
Member of Parliament for Kanduyi, John Makali conveyed his condolences to the family stating that the late Mama Anna had a strong moral foundation that produced two leaders in the country.

Wetangula was appointed Speaker of the National Assembly in 2022. He served as the Minister for Trade until he was elected  Bungoma Senator in 2013. The Ford-Kenya Party leader was then re-elected in 2017 and 2022 but resigned to take up the speaker position.Â
His brother, Timothy Wanyonyi, was first elected as Westlands MP in 2017 and defended his seat in 2022. He has talked about plans to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.
