Chief of Defence Forces in Uganda General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced that he has no plans to run against his father, President Yoweri Museveni, in the next general elections.
In a statement on September 20, Muhoozi said he is focused on his role at the army and endorsed Museveni.
“I would like to announce that I will not be on the ballot paper in 2026. Almighty God told me to focus on His Army first. So, I fully endorse President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections,” Muhoozi said.
However, he said the country will not be ruled by a civilian leader after his father.
Muhoozi said the forces will not allow a civilian to take over after Museveni emphasizing that the next president must be from the security agencies in Uganda.
“No civilian will lead Uganda after President Museveni. The security forces will not allow it. The next leader will be a soldier or policeman,” he said.
Muhoozi Attacks Western Nations
Muhoozi also spoke on the possibility of journalists from international media taking up his words and claim that he is a threat to Ugandan democracy.
He maintained that he is fighting for the freedom of Uganda, adding that they will not allow the country to be recolonized again.

The General urged Ugandans to resist imperialism, arguing that the foreign nations were not present when the leaders were fighting for the freedom of the country.
“Egged on no doubt by internal and foreign enemies who want to enslave our country again. When we were fighting for Ugandan freedom in Teso, Lango, Bundibugyo, Garamba, Mogadishu, Juba and Bor, those ‘fake lovers’ of Uganda were nowhere to be seen,” he said.
“Back then for them it wouldn’t have mattered if our impoverished country was destroyed forever. Now they perceive that there is profited to be made from our now prosperous nation. Fellow Ugandans, resisting the imperialists is a patriotic duty.”

Punishing Opponents
Muhoozi sparked a debate on social media in August after he threatened to punish those who will oppose him if he succeeds his father as the President of Uganda.
“When I become President of this beautiful country, anyone who doubts it will be in trouble!” Muhoozi wrote on X.
His statement was criticized by Uganda’s opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine stated that Gen. Muhoozi has already confirmed that he is more brutal than President Museveni.
The opposition leader explained that it is upon the people of Uganda to rise against the humiliation, and oppression against the people of Uganda by President Museveni and his entire family.
