Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya was attacked by goons at a political event on Sunday, November 12 in Mumias West, Kakamega County.
The legislator is seen in a video that has since gone viral addressing residents before what seems like a fight ensues thence disrupting the political gathering.
As such, Salasya was whisked away by his security personnel to safety.
According to reports, the MP was speaking over the current state of the sugar industry in the region while defending the Mumias Company investor against the farmers’ wishes.
He then proceeded to call out those who disagreed with him on the issue causing the scuffle.
However, while reacting to the incident, Peter Salasya blamed Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa for his attack claiming he sponsored the goons to attack him.
“The goons of Barasa Fernandes attacked me so innocently while addressing residents of Mumias West, but thank you my tight security for ensuring no one moves closer to me. And I will always say it as it is, Mumias sugar must run without Governor interference,” noted Salasya.

Salasya on the Sugar Sector
Nonetheless, the Mumias East legislator has been advocating for the prioritization of sugarcane farmers and payment of their dues.
The MP was calling on Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa who was also present at the event, to implement reforms initiated by the former governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
The reforms advocated for the interests of cane farmers and the revival of the Mumias Sugar Company.
