Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has responded to accusations of defaulting on Ksh165,000 loan from a Sacco in Kakamega.
According to the MP, the whole issue was not as serious as it seemed to be, and online users were only trying to tarnish his good name.
Salasya shared a video response to Boniface Mwangi who shared a letter on Wednesday, September 20, sent to him by Salasya’s guarantors who could no longer reach him.
He added that he was more than capable of paying the remaining Ksh40,000 because he earned a lot of money.
“They are jealous of my success. They want to seem sophisticated and educated. That is why they cannot become MPs. They can never be elected,”
“I have enough money to pay back that Sacco. I already spend too much money helping my people so Ksh40,000 is very little money,” said Salasya.
Moreover, the member of parliament hit back at Mwangi saying that his only intention was to make the people believe that he was a thief.
He added that he would visit the Sacco as soon as he returns from Nigeria and iron out any issues that they had with him.
“Boniface Mwangi is claiming that I have stolen money from someone. If this country has debt in trillions. I have not refused to repay that loan.
“I have not found time to visit the Sacco because I have been busy. They have to sit me down and let me know exactly how much I owe them because my money has been there for a while,” he added.

Letter to Boniface Mwangi
Earlier on Wednesday, September 20, Boniface Mwangi shared a detailed letter from Polycarp Nyonje claiming that he acted as a guarantor when Salasya took a Ksh165,000 loan in 2017.
According to the statement, Nyonje and two others were forced to take up the burden of repaying the loan when Salasya defaulted.
Additionally, Nyonje stated that he had tried reaching out to the MP on several occasions, but he kept giving him false promises of repaying the cash.
When Salasya became a member of parliament, Nyonje decided to approach the national assembly and the office of the ombudsman for intervention, but his efforts were futile.
“I have tried engaging Salasya on social media platforms, but he never responds. Our hard-earned savings were debited to the tune of Ksh40,821. This affected our borrowing power in the Sacco.
“When I try to reach him these days, he doesn’t respond to any of my calls, or text messages. I also approached his party, the DAP-Kenya Party but they did not assist us,” the letter read in part.

Boniface Mwangi’s Response to Salasya
Mwangi reshared the video response from Salasya stating that the MP lacked self-awareness. According to Mwangi, the MP hurt his people and that is something they would not forget.
“This level of lack of self-awareness by Salasya is on a childish level. It’s the people of Mumias East who will teach you that painful lesson you’re craving for.
“People might forget what you said but they will never forget how you made them feel. Mumias East will remember,” he stated.
