CS Munya Defends The Sh2 Maize Import Tax Relief

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya while speaking on the sidelines of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) meeting held in Nairobi today defended the KSh 2 maize import tax relief saying it is better than nothing.

Moreover, Munya noted that there are measures in place to cushion Kenyans against the maize shortage.

The CS further mentioned that Kenya is seeking to involve regional communities like COMESA and countries like Zambia to help boost the supply of maize in the country.

Furthermore, the Agriculture CS reported that the horn of Africa is prone to cyclical drought. Thence the IGAD meeting will develop solutions for regional heads to work together and come up with resources to curb the issue.

According to CS Munya, there is a programme already in place looking to tap into the livestock sector so as to contribute to the region’s economy.
