Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen was booed by hundreds of football fans while he was giving a speech in Baringo County.
Murkomen, who had attended the Baringo County Governor’s Cup football games, was about to give a speech when the crowd became unruly.
Despite the noise and heckle, the CS proceeded with his speech stating that he would invite the winning team to Kapenguria for the finals game.
Notably, Murkomen was addressing a protest by Baringo Youth FC from Kabarnet over their loss against Chemogoch FC from Mogotio.
“Ruto Must Go!” chants filled the air as the CS attempted to keep the crowd calm. As a result, the men’s football match was postponed.

Murkomen Attempts to Keep the Crowd Calm
On the other hand, Murkomen posted a response on X indicating that he was attempting to resolve the conflict between the two men’s football teams.
“I don’t want people to fight. Wait, let us come to an understanding…Wait a minute I am not done…the governor will find another day to facilitate the Baringo cup…I would not want our youth to fight,” Murkomen stated as he struggled to keep the crowd calm.
However, the transport CS and sports enthusiast noted that the women’s game was enjoyable adding that the officials did their best to resolve the conflict that ensued.
At the same time, he clarified that the crowd felt ignored by a Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) officer named Ruto.

“The officials did their best to resolve the matter, but the Baringo central team were not satisfied. Being the home team, and with their fans being more than half of the stadium, it was impossible to proceed with the match.
“The players and the fans poured their frustrations on FKF officials, especially one Mr. Ruto, whom they felt, was not addressing their concerns,” he stated.
The CS Responds to the Uproar
Murkomen stated that Football can be an emotive game adding a light joke that a friend asked him to stick to athletics.
Additionally, he stated that the matter would be resolved soon, and the match would take place another day.
“I believe Governor Cheboi, with the local leaders, will resolve the small matter soon, and we shall return to Baringo to watch the men’s final and award all the winners.
“Sports can be emotive, but football is a beautiful and popular game that can be used to foster peace. A friend who followed the incident joked that we should stick to athletics,” he stated.
