Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday, September 28 Road highlighted projects that the government of China will complete in Kenya.
In a statement, CS Murkomen stated that he met with various political leaders in Beijing, China to discuss bilateral development cooperation between the two countries in the last three days.
“Our discussions were centered on strengthening our bilateral development cooperation and comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries even as we celebrate 60yrs of diplomatic relations.
Through our partnership, we hope to complete our ongoing road projects, extend the railway to Malaba, dual our main highways, expand our port and airports’ infrastructure, equip our Technical and Vocational Institutions, build water dams, implement our smart and intelligent traffic systems among others,” said Murkomen.
Additionally, the CS said President William Ruto will soon visit the Asian Country to meet with his counterpart President Xi Jinping.
Further, CS Murkomen mentioned he attended and addressed the 2023 Global Sustainable Transport Forum
“I was also honored at the invitation of my counterpart to attend and address the 2023 Global Sustainable Transport Forum where I underscored the importance of global partnerships in the development of sustainable and climate resilient transport infrastructure including the opportunities available in Kenya for Public – Privet Partnerships (PPP),” added Murkomen.
Some of the leaders CS Murkomen held consultative meetings with include HE Li Xiaopeng, Minister of Transport and Deng Li, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China; Tan Wenhong, the Deputy Director General of the Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and Wang Weidong Executive Vice President of China Development Bank (CDB).

Mudavadi Hails China
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi praised the remarkable relationship between Kenya and China which has now lasted for 60 years history.
Speaking during a commemoration ceremony to mark the 74th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, on Wednesday, September 27, Mudavadi said China has been one of the oldest and major partners of Kenya since independence.
“Kenya deeply values the historical, cordial, and fraternal relations we share with China, built on trust, mutual benefit, and non-interference in internal affairs. These principles are vital in nurturing strong diplomatic ties,” he said.

Further, Mudavadi said Kenya admired the resilience and achievements of the Chinese people which has led to the transformation of modern China.
“We applaud China’s robust Foreign Direct Investment, particularly in infrastructure projects,” he said.
The Prime CS asked the two countries to continue strengthening ties, enhancing cooperation, and pursuing shared opportunities for mutual growth.
