The family of Ann Akinyi Adhiambo, the suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Eric Maigo, has broken silence over the teenager’s alleged involvement in the crime.
In an interview with the media, Doreen, the mother of the minor said Adhiambo was in the house after 11pm on Thursday, September 14 when Maigo was murdered.
Further, the mother revealed that she had an argument with Adhiambo that night while she was preparing supper.
“I told Adhiambo I could have beaten her because I asked a question, and she didn’t answer although she was the one who spent most of the time in the house.
She started talking back to me and I warned her not to provoke me. I told her to step out and come back once I finish cooking,” said the mother.
Additionally, she said the daughter went out and came back in after they had finished taking supper.
“I saw her come in and close the door while I was going to the bedroom. She went ahead and picked her mattress, and I went to sleep knowing that she was ready to sleep,” narrated the mother.
However, the teenager disappeared at midnight after the mother had gone to sleep.
“The other kids woke up early the next morning at 6am and told me that Adhiambo was not in the house, I wondered where she had gone to that early,” said Doreen.
Adhiambo was later captured by CCTV cameras five blocks from the house where the murder occurred.
Afterwards, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified Adhiambo as a prime suspect and launched a manhunt for her.
